The Rhineland Industrial Museum

The Rhineland Industrial Museum Engelskirchen

Water as the driving force

In the former cotton spinning mill "Ermen & Engels", the factory of Friedrich Engels sen., you can really experience the history of the cotton spinning mill in Engelskirchen during the permanent exhibition "Unter Spannung". The central theme is electrification. The Agger used to feed a huge hydroelectric power plant, which still exists today. Not only the factory but also many private households in Engelskirchen were supplied with electricity as early as around 1900. Marvel at the impressive steam engine in the museum, experience the spinning mill as it was then and discover historical office and household appliances. Special exhibitions in the old cotton warehouse and museum festivals provide for more and more new items at the Rhineland Industrial Museum.

You can explore the museum on your own, as well as with tours, and you can admire historic machines in action.

The museum is accessible without restrictions for disabled persons and wheelchair users except for parts of the turbine cellar.

Our tip: look at the annual calendar. Special exhibitions often take place.
